Review: The Tyrant’s Tomb

The Tyrant’s Tomb The Tyrant’s Tomb by Rick Riordan
My rating: 3 of 5 stars

First, I LOVE what Rick Riordan does in terms of representation. He does an incredible job or creating diverse casts and I think it would help people really feel seen. His books are hilarious and a whole lot of fun. However, I've just read too many of them now and they all have basically the same sort of plot. I do like Apollo. I've enjoyed seeing him grow and change. That said, I think I'll probably finish this series and then be done with Rick Riordan for a while. I'm just not the target audience and while he is great for so many reasons, I don't enjoy reading the same basic plot 57 times (I know they are different, but they usually all follow a pretty similar formula). I'm not against formulas - they obviously work for him! I'm just tired of this particular formula. I'd definitely recommend this to others though and look forward to when my kids are old enough to read this series! I think my kids will love them someday. :)

Review: Crooked Kingdom

Crooked Kingdom Crooked Kingdom by Leigh Bardugo
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

These are very interesting, fast-paced books. I read them all because I wanted to before I watched the Netflix show. I don't think I love them quite as much as a lot of people seem to and I'm not really sure why, but I do like the characters and the world. I'm enjoying the show too, and I do think it helps to have read the books! I don't think I'll continue with the King of Scars series, but I'm glad I read these ones.
