Review: Homegoing

Homegoing Homegoing by Yaa Gyasi
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

4.5 stars at least. I'll consider increasing my rating once I've had more time to let it stew. :) This was very, very good. It was more of a collection of short connected stories, but every single story was impactful. Each story follows the next generation from two half-sisters that never met. Half of the stories are set in Ghana and half of the stories take place in the United States over the course of three hundred years. I felt connected to each and every character in each generation even though you don't get very long with any one character. I highly recommend this book and will pass it along to anyone I can!

Review: The Trials of Morrigan Crow

The Trials of Morrigan Crow The Trials of Morrigan Crow by Jessica Townsend
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

I really, really liked this book! Definitely the best middle grade book I've read in a long time (and I've read a few good ones recently!). There were creative, whimsical characters (including a giant talking cat - who doesn't love that??), a unique world, a compelling plot, and more! I think this series has a lot of potential. The comparisons to Harry Potter are fair, at least as far as the feelings evoked while reading it and the potential it has for future books. I loved the actual trials and the scenes that took place surrounding holidays. I think there is room for more world-building and development of the antagonist, but I am looking forward to that in future books. I almost never give 5 stars, but I think this one may be worthy of the rating!

Review: The Mystery of the Blue Train

The Mystery of the Blue Train The Mystery of the Blue Train by Agatha Christie
My rating: 2 of 5 stars

Eh. Not my favorite Agatha Christie. Honestly, it wasn't that bad, but it may not have been a great time for me to read one of hers. I usually find her books really comforting, so I'm not sure if this one really isn't as good as some of her others or if it was not the best time for me to read it with the school year being what it is. I don't know. It was fine, but not great.
